Where to start with Game of Thrones in 2026
Eight seasons, 73 episodes, roughly 70 hours. The only watch order that works, and the three episodes that decide whether you keep going.
There is no clever watch order for Game of Thrones. Release order is the only one that works, because the show withholds information deliberately and every reveal is built on what you did not know an episode earlier. Start at season one, episode one, and do not read episode titles ahead of yourself — several of them are spoilers on their own. The show asks for patience in its first four episodes: it introduces roughly twenty named characters across three continents before it gives you a reason to care about most of them. Episode nine of season one is the point where people either commit or stop, and it is the fairest test of whether the series is for you. If you are still unsure after it, watch the tenth as well — the last three minutes reframe everything the season has been doing. From there the pace changes permanently. Seasons two through four are the densest stretch and the most rewarding. Seasons seven and eight are shorter, faster and much more divisive, and it is worth going in knowing that the ending is the most argued-about finale in modern television.
